Smile Now, Cry Later - Drama based upon a true story.


Log Line - Growing up in Echo Park, California in the 1970s was not easy for a single mom raising four kids.  One thing leads to another; the streets become the boys formal education and being part of a gang is second nature.  "Smile Now, Cry Later" is based on a true story of young kids playing in the park with water pistols and graduating to the real thing.  Violence, corruption, drugs and retaliation turn 8 year old  boys turn into desperate teenagers, dangerous to themselves and the community.  "Smile Now, Cry Later" is a play that ran for 5 years at the Angelus Temple in Echo Park, CA and children were bused from all the different communities to watch this transforming play.  The story was meant to inspire young kids to stay away from gangs that destroy lives and families and find an another path to build a future to grow.  "Smile Now, Cry Later" has been adopted for the large screen.  Ruben Soto Films endeavor to transform more than a school bus; an entire generation.
